Only spot mow to control invasive species or undesirable woody plants. Grassed waterways in a program should not be mowed more frequently than specified in a conservation plan, but should occur to the extent necessary to meet design requirements. Mowing program waterways or filter strips after the establishment phase without written approval from FSA or otherwise stated in your conservation plan may not be allowed. If you plan to mow, consider starting from unfriendly cover (like a road) and mowing towards more friendly cover. The use of flush bars, chains, or other wildlife flushing tools will help reduce wildlife collisions with the mower. These approaches will allow wildlife to escape safely. WORKING LANDS
